Top 7 Animals With Enviable Superpowers

  • MANTIS SHRIMP

Mantis shrimp are amazing little creatures. They are beautiful and rainbow-coloured, but their appearances are not what got them on this listing. This small shrimp has powerful spring-loaded arms which can deliver a punch that equals the power and speed of a 0.22 calibre bullet.

Let that sink in for a second. Yep, a 0.22 caliber bullet punch by a literal shrimp. They've been proven to kill predators much larger than themselves and may punch-murder crabs (who, if you remember, have armours which should have the ability to withstand a punch out of a shrimp) and octopi (who have over one limb to help them get out of sticky situations fluidly). And as if the super strength punches were not enough, the mantis shrimp may also presumably observe each and every color... such as ultraviolet. That is because they have SIXTEEN types of colour-receptive cones. To put matters into perspective for you, people only have three.

  • PLATYPUS

Platypuses are already strange animals. They make one believe that maybe an image of a platypus is what gave Dr Frankenstein the idea for his creature. They classify as mammals, but they also lay eggshave duck-like debts, beaver-like tails and otter-like feet. There is really not another animal like the platypus down to their incredible abilities.

Male platypuses have ankle spurs that provide poison potent enough to kill a puppy and cause individuals excruciating pain. But that is not all! The platypus also has a sixth sense... electro reception. Which means that they can sense electrical signals in muscles (and that's what occurs if one goes ). This usually means the more the platypus' prey attempts to eliminate, the easier it becomes for the platypus to catch. Interestingly, platypuses rely solely upon their super-ability to hunt, opting to shut their eyes, ears and nose each time they dive.

  • MIMIC OCTOPUS

The name kind of gives it away. A mimic octopus's unique ability is to mimic. But what's amazing is the way they do it and just how amazingly true their mimicry is! These men grow as many as two feet, so they are not terribly big, but they make up for size with unbelievable skill. A normal copy-job for these octopuses means they could control their size, colour, and look (and mannerisms of their creature they're mimicking).

It is particularly interesting to notice how the mimic octopus catches its prey. Say they notice a particularly delicious crab, a mimic octopus is very likely to move on the hunt by pretending to become an eligible suitor, only to attack and devour the crab that is curious once it gets too near. Maybe they do that since they find that heart-broken crabs taste much better? Their ability of getting different animals also comes in handy when they pretend to be toxic fish such as lionfish, sea snakes and bottoms to keep predators away. And when pretending to be someone else does not work... a mimic octopus knows how to set the pedal to the metal and run immediately.

  • DRAGON MILLIPEDES

Like most people, you probably don't care for bugs too much, and that includes creepy crawlies such as dragon millipedes because they are still bugs no matter how cool the name. But wait... only look at one of these guys.

Fabulous bugs, dragon millipedes stone hot pink with complete design, but more than that, for an insect they smell very nice. Dragon millipedes are often said to smell like almonds, a pleasant fragrance, right? Yes, but not quite; the nice odor of almonds is also a deadly indicator of a few of the very dangerous toxins known to man... cyanide. 1 touch, and a full-grown guy could be dead in a matter of minutes. What about a dragon millipede screams"touch me" but in the event that you actually end up in Thailand around the monsoons, keep an eye out for pink.

  • TRAP-JAW ANT

As its name suggeststhis is an ant with an incredible set of jaws or more correctly, mandibles. Their mandibles are extremely powerful, they can close at rates of 126 into 230 kmph. That's a force to be reckoned with. In reality, the ant uses its mandibles and potency for an unconventional motive. To start themselves over distances by leaping. Imagine closing your jaws with such a force that your body is tilted backward several feet! You would seem somewhat silly opening and closing your mouth, but who is going to detect laughter when you are one pretend-bite away from being out of earshot!

Trap-jaw rodents use their mandibles for all types of things, from leaping distances up to 15 inches off (quite a feat when you are no bigger than a couple of millimetres), to cutting chunks of food, into caring for their larvae. Discuss versatile!

  • SALMON

Salmon are mostly known for their nutrient properties, but these fish also have an amazing ability. To comprehend what that ability is, let's talk about the life span of a normal salmon fish. They're born in rivers and as they grow more older; they venture out into the broad sea and then come back to the flow of their source to put eggs, perpetuating a cycle that's gone on for several lifetimes before and will continue to do so for several lifetimes after.

How can they know how to return? The sea is vast, and regardless of where they ramble when they venture to the open ocean, they can find their way back to the waters that they had been born inside. This incredible feat of navigation is due to the salmon's ability to feel the earth's magnetic field and use it in order to return home. Scientists describe it as a geomagnetic compass that guides them back home.

  • HONEY BADGERS

Honey badgers are the definition of badass. They have almost no natural predators, and they are famous for their devil-may-care attitude. These adorably named badgers struggle every single threat head-on and possess some killer defensive motions (pun intended).

Honey badgers are known to undertake venomous snakes, get bitten and get straight back up to complete the job moments afterwards. For us, honey badger sounds like a vigilante superhero. All in all, don't let this cute exterior fool you, honey-badgers are barbarous creatures with much more power than they seem as though they have, defence abilities and thick skin (that works like armour). It's difficult to believe they're related weasels!
